What Is It?
Chin filler uses a firm hyaluronic acid gel injected over the chin bone to improve chin projection, height, or shape without surgery. It can balance a recessive chin, define the jaw-neck angle, and improve facial profile significantly, with results comparable to a small chin implant.
How It Works
Structural filler is injected in the pre-periosteal plane directly over the chin bone via a needle. Multiple small boluses are placed to build projection forward, downward, or laterally depending on the desired correction. The filler is shaped and moulded manually in real time.
Realistic Results
Immediately visible improvement in chin projection and facial profile. Results are at their natural best at 2 weeks and last 12–18 months. Firm products in the deep chin plane tend to last longer than softer products placed superficially.
Recovery
Mild swelling for 3–5 days. The chin may feel firm and slightly tender for 1–2 weeks. Avoid wearing chin straps or tight helmets for 2 weeks. There is no restriction on eating or speaking.
Risks & Complications
- !Vascular occlusion near the mental artery
- !Filler migration causing an asymmetric or double-chin effect
- !Lumping if placed incorrectly
- !Over-projection creating an unnatural chin shape
- !Numbness of the chin (temporary in most cases)
Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely
- ⚑Provider uses a soft, lip-type filler for chin projection
- ⚑No assessment of your facial profile and proportions before treatment
- ⚑Injection near the mental foramen area without knowledge of nerve location
- ⚑No discussion of surgical alternatives if the degree of correction exceeds what filler can achieve
Questions to Ask Before Booking
- What filler product will you use, and is it appropriate for deep periosteal chin placement?
- How much projection (mm) can I realistically achieve with filler?
- At what point should I consider a surgical chin implant instead?
- Where exactly will you inject, and is there a nerve risk in that area?
- How can I tell if filler has migrated after the procedure?
