What Is It?

Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone to serve as artificial tooth roots. A crown is attached to the implant, replacing a missing tooth with a permanent, natural-looking result. Implants preserve bone density and maintain the surrounding teeth's positions.

How It Works

The implant post is placed in the jawbone under local anaesthesia. Over 3–6 months (osseointegration), the titanium fuses with the surrounding bone. A connector (abutment) is then attached, and a custom-made porcelain crown is fitted on top. The entire process takes 4–9 months.

Realistic Results

A permanent, functional, natural-looking replacement tooth that feels and functions like a natural tooth. Implants last 15–25+ years with proper oral hygiene. The adjacent bone is preserved, preventing the facial collapse that occurs with missing teeth over time.

Recovery

Mild swelling and discomfort for 3–5 days after implant placement. Soft diet for 1–2 weeks. Full function restored with the final crown placement 3–6 months after the initial surgery.

Risks & Complications

  • !Implant failure (non-integration) — approximately 2–5% failure rate
  • !Infection at the implant site (peri-implantitis)
  • !Nerve or sinus complications in complex cases
  • !Insufficient bone requiring grafting before implant placement
  • !Long overall treatment timeline

Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely

  • Implant placed without pre-operative 3D CBCT scan to assess bone volume and proximity to nerves
  • No bone density assessment or discussion of grafting if bone volume is insufficient
  • Active gum disease or smoking not addressed before placement
  • Surgeon does not discuss the osseointegration period or the importance of oral hygiene

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • Will you take a CBCT scan to assess my bone volume and nerve position?
  • Do I need a bone graft before the implant can be placed?
  • What is your implant failure rate, and what happens if my implant fails?
  • How long is the total treatment timeline?
  • What oral hygiene protocol is required to maintain the implant long-term?
