What Is It?
HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound), commercially known as Ultherapy, is the only non-invasive treatment that targets the SMAS layer — the same layer addressed in a facelift. It delivers focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen at three depths: the dermis, the superficial fat, and the SMAS, providing a gradual lift and tightening.
How It Works
The HIFU handpiece delivers focused ultrasound to specific tissue depths (1.5mm, 3mm, and 4.5mm) using different transducers. The focused energy creates small thermal coagulation zones at the target depth without damaging intervening tissue. The controlled injury triggers a healing response and new collagen formation.
Realistic Results
Gradual lifting and tightening of the treated area over 2–3 months, with full results at 3–6 months. A single session is standard for Ultherapy. Results last 12–18 months before a touch-up is needed.
Recovery
Mild redness and swelling for 24–48 hours. Some patients experience temporary nerve tingling or tenderness in the treated area for 2–4 weeks. No social downtime.
