What Is It?

A lower body lift is a circumferential surgical procedure that addresses sagging skin and tissue around the entire lower trunk — the abdomen, waist, hips, outer thighs, and buttocks — in a single operation. It is most commonly performed after massive weight loss following bariatric surgery.

How It Works

Incisions are made circumferentially around the waist and lower back. Excess skin is removed from the abdomen, flanks, buttocks, and outer thighs simultaneously. The remaining tissue is tightened and lifted. The procedure may take 4–6 hours under general anaesthesia.

Realistic Results

A dramatically improved lower body contour with tighter skin, reduced hanging tissue, and a lifted buttock and outer thigh appearance. The scar runs around the body at the waistline and is hidden by most clothing. Results are permanent with weight stability.

Recovery

Requires 3–5 days of hospitalisation. Drains are placed for 1–2 weeks. Full recovery takes 6–8 weeks. Heavy lifting and vigorous exercise are restricted for 3 months.

Risks & Complications

  • !Major surgery risks: haematoma, seroma, wound healing complications
  • !Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism
  • !Significant scar around the entire waist
  • !Protracted recovery
  • !Asymmetry of the buttock or thigh contour

Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely

  • Procedure offered without thorough pre-operative medical assessment for this major surgery
  • No DVT prophylaxis protocol
  • Surgeon does not discuss total operative time or hospitalisation requirements
  • Patient's weight has not been stable for at least 12–18 months after bariatric surgery

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • What is the total operative time and hospitalisation length?
  • Is my weight stable enough to proceed, and for how long should I wait after bariatric surgery?
  • What DVT prevention protocol will be used?
  • What is the total scar length and position around my body?
  • How many lower body lifts do you perform annually?
