What Is It?
A mini tummy tuck targets only the lower abdomen (below the navel), removing a smaller strip of excess skin and tightening the lower abdominal muscles. It is suited to patients with good skin quality in the upper abdomen who have a localised concern below the belly button that has not responded to exercise.
How It Works
A shorter incision is made above the pubic hairline. The lower abdominal skin is lifted, excess skin is removed, and the lower rectus muscles are tightened if there is diastasis. The navel is typically not repositioned in a true mini tummy tuck. Liposuction may be combined.
Realistic Results
A flatter lower abdomen with tighter skin below the navel. The scar is shorter than a full tummy tuck. Results are permanent with weight stability but will not address upper abdominal laxity.
Recovery
Slightly shorter recovery than a full tummy tuck. Compression garment worn for 4–6 weeks. Most patients return to desk work in 5–7 days.
Risks & Complications
- !Wound healing issues at the incision
- !Seroma or haematoma
- !Over-resection creating tension on the scar
- !Risk of an unnatural-looking navel if it is pulled down
- !May require conversion to a full tummy tuck if upper laxity becomes apparent
Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely
- ⚑Surgeon recommends a mini tummy tuck when significant upper abdominal laxity is present
- ⚑No examination of the full abdomen to determine the correct procedure
- ⚑Navel position assessment is not discussed
- ⚑Surgeon cannot show before-and-after photos of mini vs. full abdominoplasty candidates

- Will my navel position be affected?
- What is the scar length compared to a full tummy tuck?
