What Is It?

Monsplasty removes excess fat and skin from the mons pubis — the rounded area of fatty tissue above the pubic bone. The mons can enlarge after weight gain, significant weight loss, or with ageing, creating a prominent bulge that is uncomfortable and aesthetically distressing. The procedure is often combined with a tummy tuck.

How It Works

Excess fat is removed via liposuction and, if there is excess skin, a strip of skin is excised from the upper mons or incorporated into a tummy tuck scar. The remaining tissue is tightened and the mons is contoured to a more natural, flat appearance.

Realistic Results

A flatter, more proportionate mons pubis region. Results are permanent if weight is maintained. When combined with a tummy tuck, the improvement in the overall lower abdominal profile is dramatic.

Recovery

Compression garments are worn for 4–6 weeks. Minimal restrictions beyond those of any liposuction — return to work in 5–7 days, full activity at 4–6 weeks.

Risks & Complications

  • !Seroma formation (fluid collection) in this area is common
  • !Contour irregularity if liposuction is uneven
  • !Scar if skin excision is required
  • !Temporary numbness of the mons region

Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely

  • Surgeon proposes skin excision for a patient who only has fat excess (liposuction alone may be sufficient)
  • No assessment of whether the prominence is fat, skin, or both before planning surgery
  • No mention of seroma risk and drainage protocol

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • Is my concern primarily fat (treatable with liposuction) or excess skin (requiring excision)?
  • Will this be combined with my tummy tuck, and how does that affect the recovery?
  • What is the seroma risk, and how will it be managed?
  • Where will the scar be if skin excision is required?
  • How will the result integrate with my overall lower abdominal aesthetic?
