What Is It?

Non-surgical vaginal tightening uses radiofrequency or laser energy to stimulate collagen production in the vaginal mucosa and the external vulvar tissues. Devices such as the Mona Lisa Touch, FemTouch, or Votiva can improve vaginal laxity, dryness, and mild stress urinary incontinence without surgery.

How It Works

A handpiece or wand is inserted into the vaginal canal and delivers controlled thermal energy to the mucosal lining. The heat stimulates collagen remodelling and new tissue production, gradually improving vaginal tone and mucosal health. An external attachment treats the vulvar tissues. A series of 3 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is standard.

Realistic Results

Gradual improvement in vaginal tightness, lubrication, and comfort over 2–3 months. Some reduction in mild urinary leakage with activity. Results last approximately 12–18 months and require annual maintenance sessions.

Recovery

No downtime. Patients are advised to abstain from sexual intercourse for 2–5 days after each session. A mild warm sensation or discharge for 1–2 days after treatment is normal.

Risks & Complications

  • !Temporary vaginal warmth, mild discomfort, or discharge
  • !Minimal evidence of long-term safety in the literature compared to surgical options
  • !Limited efficacy for significant vaginal laxity
  • !Burns if energy settings are not calibrated correctly

Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely

  • Provider claims non-surgical tightening is equivalent to vaginoplasty for significant laxity
  • Device is an unverified or off-brand system
  • No assessment of the degree of vaginal laxity or underlying cause before starting treatment
  • Provider is not a gynaecologist or aesthetic medicine practitioner with intimate anatomy training

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • What device will you use, and is it cleared for vaginal rejuvenation?
  • Is my concern significant enough to warrant surgery rather than non-surgical treatment?
  • How many sessions are included in the course?
  • What results can I realistically expect for my degree of laxity?
  • Is there evidence supporting this treatment for my specific concern?
