What Is It?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections for hair loss use the patient's own blood — concentrated to increase platelet content — and inject it into the scalp to stimulate dormant follicles and prolong the growth phase of the hair cycle. It is used to treat androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata in both men and women.

How It Works

Blood is drawn, centrifuged to separate the PRP, and then injected at multiple points across the thinning scalp using a fine needle or mesotherapy gun. The growth factors in PRP (PDGF, VEGF, TGF-β) stimulate hair follicle activity, improve local blood supply, and promote the anagen (growth) phase.

Realistic Results

Reduced hair shedding and improved hair thickness over a course of 3–6 sessions spaced monthly. Some patients experience new hair growth in dormant follicles. Results vary significantly depending on the stage of hair loss — it works best for early-stage loss where follicles are still viable.

Recovery

Mild redness and tingling of the scalp for 24–48 hours. No downtime. Patients should avoid washing their hair for 24 hours after treatment.

Risks & Complications

  • !Bruising or soreness at injection points
  • !Temporary scalp discomfort and redness
  • !Variable individual response
  • !Ineffective if follicles are completely inactive (end-stage alopecia)
  • !Risk of infection if scalp preparation is not sterile

Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely

  • Blood is not drawn from the patient before the session — 'PRP' cannot be autologous without a blood draw
  • No centrifuge or PRP kit available at the clinic
  • Provider claims PRP regrows hair in completely bald areas
  • No assessment of hair loss stage before recommending treatment

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • What PRP preparation kit and centrifuge do you use?
  • How many sessions are recommended for my stage and type of hair loss?
  • How will you measure response to treatment?
  • Is PRP appropriate for my degree of hair loss, or would a hair transplant be more effective?
  • Should I combine PRP with medication like finasteride or minoxidil?
