What Is It?

RF (radiofrequency) and ultrasound body contouring combines two energy types to simultaneously target fat reduction and skin tightening. RF heats the deeper layers to destroy fat and stimulate collagen, while ultrasound (such as cavitation) disrupts fat cell membranes. Combined, they improve body contour without surgery.

How It Works

RF energy is applied via a handheld device over the treatment area, heating the dermis and subcutaneous fat to 40–45°C. Ultrasound cavitation uses low-frequency acoustic waves to create microbubbles within fat cells, disrupting the cell membrane. The released lipids are processed through the lymphatic system.

Realistic Results

Gradual reduction in localised fat and improvement in skin firmness over 6–12 weeks per session. A course of 6–10 sessions is typically recommended. Results are modest compared to surgical liposuction and best suited to patients with small, well-defined fat pockets.

Recovery

No downtime. Skin may appear red and warm for 1–2 hours. Drinking additional water post-session supports lymphatic clearance of disrupted fat.

Risks & Complications

  • !Skin burns if the device is held stationary for too long
  • !Temporary bruising or redness
  • !Limited efficacy for large fat deposits or significant skin laxity
  • !No effect on cellulite if the treatment is marketed as such without evidence

Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely

  • Provider claims results equivalent to liposuction
  • Off-brand or unverified device without safety clearance
  • Treatment recommended for large areas of fat or loose skin requiring surgical correction
  • No body composition or skin assessment before starting a course

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • What specific device and frequencies are being used?
  • How do I know if this is working, and what measurements will you take?
  • How many sessions are recommended, and at what intervals?
  • If I do not see results after a course, what are the alternatives?
  • Is there a risk of burns, and how is the treatment temperature monitored?
