What Is It?
A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure that lifts and repositions sagging facial tissue using absorbable sutures with tiny cones or barbs. It provides immediate lifting of the midface, jowls, and brows without the recovery of a surgical facelift, and stimulates collagen production as the threads dissolve.
How It Works
Under local anaesthesia, fine needles are used to introduce absorbable PDO or PLLA threads beneath the skin. The barbs or cones on the threads grip the tissue and are then pulled upward and anchored to create a lift. As the threads dissolve over 6–8 months, the collagen stimulated around them sustains the result.
Realistic Results
An immediate visible lift in the treated area, with progressive skin tightening continuing as collagen forms. Results last approximately 12–18 months. The procedure is best suited to patients with mild to moderate laxity — it does not replace a surgical facelift for significant sagging.
Recovery
Mild swelling, bruising, and a tight sensation for 1–2 weeks. Skin puckering or dimpling at entry points resolves within days. Most patients return to social activities in 5–7 days. Chewing hard food is restricted for 2 weeks.
Risks & Complications
- !Temporary dimpling, puckering, or irregularity at thread insertion points
- !Thread extrusion through the skin
- !Asymmetry between the two sides
- !Infection along the thread path
- !Threads snapping during placement if too much tension is applied
Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely
- ⚑Provider promises results equivalent to a surgical facelift
- ⚑No assessment of how much laxity you have before recommending threads
- ⚑Thread brand not specified
- ⚑No sterile technique (threads are placed under the skin and infection is a serious complication)
- ⚑Provider is not medically trained
Questions to Ask Before Booking
- What thread brand and material are you using — PDO or PLLA?
- How many threads will be used, and in which directions?
- How does the result compare to what a surgical facelift could achieve for my face?
- What should I do if I feel a thread near the surface of my skin?
- How long will the lift last before I need to repeat the treatment?
