What Is It?

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes excess abdominal skin and fat and tightens the abdominal muscles (rectus diastasis repair) to flatten and reshape the abdomen. It is most commonly sought after significant weight loss or following pregnancy, when skin laxity and muscle separation cannot be corrected with diet and exercise alone.

How It Works

An incision is made horizontally above the pubic area, spanning between the hip bones. Excess skin is removed, the abdominal muscles are sutured together in the midline, and a new navel position is created. Liposuction is often combined to further refine the waist and flanks.

Realistic Results

A dramatically flatter abdomen with tighter, firmer skin and a narrower waist. Results are long-lasting if weight is maintained. The scar lies low enough to be hidden by underwear or a bikini bottom and fades significantly over 12–24 months.

Recovery

Drains are placed for 3–7 days. Significant swelling and tightness persist for 4–8 weeks. A compression garment is worn for 6 weeks. Most patients are upright and walking within days but return to full activity only after 6 weeks.
