What Is It?

VASER liposuction uses ultrasonic energy to emulsify (liquefy) fat before it is suctioned out. The ultrasound targets fat cells specifically while minimising disruption to surrounding blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue, resulting in smoother results and a faster recovery than traditional liposuction.

How It Works

After infusing tumescent fluid, a VASER probe is inserted and emits ultrasonic waves that selectively vibrate and emulsify the fat cells. The liquefied fat is then removed by gentle suction. Because fat is pre-treated, the cannula requires less force, causing less trauma to surrounding structures. VASER is particularly effective for fibrous areas like the back and male chest.

Realistic Results

Smoother contouring with less post-operative bruising and swelling compared to traditional liposuction. Skin retraction can be slightly improved due to collagen stimulation from the ultrasonic energy. High-definition VASER (HD-VASER) can create six-pack-like muscle definition in suitable candidates.

Recovery

Slightly less bruising than standard liposuction with similar compression garment requirements (4–6 weeks). Most patients return to work in 5–7 days. Final results at 3–6 months.

Risks & Complications

  • !Thermal injury to skin or deeper tissue if probe is held in one place too long
  • !Seroma formation (more common than standard liposuction in some series)
  • !Uneven contour
  • !Temporary numbness of treated skin
  • !Burns at incision sites if proper technique is not used

Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely

  • Surgeon has not been specifically trained on the VASER system
  • Surgeon claims VASER eliminates all liposuction risks
  • HD-VASER promoted to patients who are not at a low enough body fat for definition to show
  • No discussion of seroma management or compression garment protocol

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • Are you specifically trained and credentialled in VASER technique?
  • Is HD-VASER appropriate for my body fat percentage?
  • How do you prevent thermal injury during the ultrasound phase?
  • What is your seroma rate, and how do you manage it?
  • How does your VASER result compare to standard liposuction for my body area?
