What Is It?
Fat transfer breast augmentation uses liposuction to harvest fat from another body area and injects it into the breasts to achieve a natural-looking, modest increase in size — approximately half to one full cup size. It suits patients who want a subtle enhancement without implants and have sufficient donor fat.
How It Works
Fat is harvested from the abdomen, flanks, or thighs, processed to remove blood and oil, and then injected in small droplets throughout the breast tissue. Fat is never injected near the chest wall or into glandular tissue to avoid interfering with future mammography. Multiple injection passes ensure even distribution.
Realistic Results
A soft, natural result with no implant feel. Approximately 50–70% of the transferred fat survives permanently. A second session may be required for patients wanting more volume. Results cannot be as large as implants.
Recovery
Compression garment at liposuction donor sites for 4–6 weeks. Breast tissue is slightly firm for 2–3 weeks. Most patients return to work in 5–7 days and exercise in 3–4 weeks.
Risks & Complications
- !Partial fat resorption reducing volume
- !Fat necrosis creating palpable lumps (may appear on mammograms)
- !Asymmetry between the two sides
- !Donor site bruising and contour changes
- !Limited size increase compared to implants
Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely
- ⚑Surgeon promises size increase equivalent to implants
- ⚑No discussion of mammography implications (fat necrosis can create suspicious calcifications)
- ⚑Fat is injected into the glandular tissue or near the chest wall
- ⚑Very large volumes of fat injected in a single session
- ⚑No donor site assessment performed
Questions to Ask Before Booking
- How much size increase is realistic with fat transfer for my anatomy?
- Will fat necrosis affect future mammogram results?
- How much fat will you harvest, and where from?
- Is a second session likely, and at what cost?
- Am I a better candidate for implants given the degree of size increase I want?
