What Is It?
Implant-based breast augmentation uses silicone gel or saline-filled implants to permanently increase breast volume, improve symmetry, and enhance shape. It remains the most effective method for achieving a significant and predictable size increase.
How It Works
After sizing is agreed upon, implants are placed through a precisely selected incision. The pocket is prepared under the breast tissue (subglandular), partially under the pectoral muscle (dual-plane), or fully behind the muscle (submuscular). The implant is inserted, centred on the nipple, and secured in the pocket before closure.
Realistic Results
Immediate increase in breast size with full results visible at 4–6 weeks once swelling resolves and implants settle into position. Silicone implants feel softer and more natural than saline. Results are long-lasting but implants are not considered lifetime devices.
Recovery
Sports bra worn continuously for 4–6 weeks. Arm movements restricted for 2 weeks. No physical exercise for 4–6 weeks. Return to desk work in 5–7 days.
Risks & Complications
- !Capsular contracture
- !Implant rupture or deflation
- !Animation deformity (implant movement with pectoral contraction, more common submuscular)
- !Rippling visible through the skin in thin patients
- !Asymmetry in implant position
