What Is It?

Cheek fillers use hyaluronic acid to restore volume to the mid-face, lift the lower face, and create higher, more defined cheekbones. As facial fat pads descend with age, cheek fillers replace lost volume and provide a subtle lifting effect on the nasolabial folds and jowls.

How It Works

A thick, cohesive filler is injected deep over the cheekbone periosteum using a needle, or placed into the deep fat compartments using a cannula. This provides structural support and lift. The product integrates with surrounding tissue and results are shaped and checked in real time.

Realistic Results

Immediate lifting and volumisation with results that settle and look most natural at 2–4 weeks. Results last 12–24 months in the cheek area, which has lower movement than the lips. The lifting effect on the lower face can also reduce nasolabial fold depth.

Recovery

Mild swelling and firmness in the cheeks for 3–5 days. Bruising may occur, particularly if a needle is used. Most patients are comfortable returning to social activities within 48–72 hours.

Risks & Complications

  • !Swelling and bruising
  • !Overcorrection creating an unnaturally puffy appearance
  • !Vascular occlusion (less common in the deep cheek area but possible)
  • !Filler palpability if placed too superficially
  • !Migration causing uneven contour with repeated treatments

Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely

  • Provider uses a thin, lip-type filler in the cheeks rather than a structural product
  • No discussion of lifting the cheek vs. simply adding volume
  • Excessive volume recommended in a single session
  • Provider cannot explain the difference between malar and submalar placement
  • No post-treatment follow-up to assess settling

Questions to Ask Before Booking

  • What product and depth of placement do you recommend for my anatomy?
  • How much filler (ml) per side do you plan to use?
  • Will this have a lifting effect on my lower face?
  • How does cheek filler integrate with the natural fat pad loss of ageing?
  • At what point in the future should I consider a surgical option instead?
