Injectable Fat Dissolving (Aqualyx / Kybella)

Injectable fat-dissolving treatments use compounds such as phosphatidylcholine with deoxycholic acid (PCDC) to permanently reduce small, localised fat deposits. Common treatment areas include the double chin, bra fat, inner thighs, and abdomen. They are not a substitute for liposuction in larger fat deposits.

The solution is injected directly into the fat deposit using multiple small injections in a grid pattern. The agent destabilises fat cell membranes, causing cell death. The body's immune system then removes the debris via the lymphatic system over 4–8 weeks. The process may require 2–4 sessions per area.

Gradual, progressive reduction in the treated fat pocket over 6–12 weeks after each session. Results are permanent for destroyed fat cells, though surrounding fat cells can still enlarge with weight gain. Best results are achieved in small, well-defined fat deposits.

Swelling, redness, and hardness at the treatment site for 1–2 weeks per session. The inflammatory response is the mechanism of action, so some discomfort and visible swelling is unavoidable and expected.
