What Is It?
A neck lift addresses loose, sagging skin, prominent neck bands (platysmal banding), and excess fat under the chin and along the neck. It reshapes and tightens the neck for a smoother, more defined profile. It can be performed alone or in combination with a facelift.
How It Works
Incisions are made under the chin and behind the ears. The platysma muscle is tightened or sutured together to eliminate banding. Excess fat is removed via liposuction or direct excision, and redundant skin is trimmed and re-draped. In some cases, a platysmaplasty (muscle repair) is performed from below the chin.
Realistic Results
A sharper jaw and chin-neck angle, elimination of neck bands, and significantly tighter neck skin. Results last 5–10 years depending on skin quality, age at surgery, and weight stability. The improvement in profile is often dramatic.
Recovery
A compressive chin strap is worn for 1–2 weeks. Bruising and swelling peak in the first week and largely resolve by 2–3 weeks. Most patients return to work in 10–14 days. Final results mature at 3–6 months.
