What Is It?
Septorhinoplasty combines septoplasty (functional correction of a deviated septum) with rhinoplasty (aesthetic reshaping of the nose) in a single procedure. It is ideal for patients who have both breathing difficulties and cosmetic concerns, eliminating the need for two separate surgeries.
How It Works
The surgeon first corrects the internal deviation by repositioning septal cartilage, then proceeds to reshape the external nose — refining the bridge, tip, or nostrils as needed. Septal cartilage removed during the functional correction can be used as graft material to build up or support aesthetic changes.
Realistic Results
Patients gain both improved breathing and a more balanced nasal appearance. Because functional and aesthetic goals are addressed together, the overall outcome is often more harmonious than either procedure performed alone. Final aesthetic results stabilise over 12–18 months.
Recovery
Recovery mirrors that of rhinoplasty: 7–10 days with a nasal splint, 2 weeks of visible bruising and swelling, and return to full activity by 6 weeks. Some degree of nasal congestion is normal for several weeks as internal tissues heal.
Risks & Complications
- !All risks of rhinoplasty and septoplasty apply
- !Longer operative time increases anaesthesia exposure
- !More complex surgery means a longer revision window if adjustments are needed
- !Swelling may obscure final aesthetic results for longer than rhinoplasty alone
Red Flags — Choose a Clinic Safely
- ⚑Surgeon treats the cosmetic and functional components as completely separate without an integrated plan
- ⚑No pre-operative breathing assessment performed
- ⚑Clinic cannot provide references from combined-procedure patients
- ⚑Price significantly undercuts board-certified specialists without explanation
Questions to Ask Before Booking
- How will you prioritise between functional and cosmetic goals if there is a conflict?
- Will septal cartilage be used as graft material for the cosmetic correction?
- Do I need imaging (CT scan) before surgery?
- What is your revision rate for this combined procedure?
- How will post-operative care differ from standard rhinoplasty?
